Food insecurity is widespread in Uganda and human rights agencies have continued to reflect a declining score against Uganda with the right to food as one of the critical deficiencies in our governance. EA does not only pursue food security as a fundamental right to freedom from hunger and malnutrition but also as a pre-requisite to sustainable development which requires a healthy and productive population.
EA therefore:
- Endeavors to cause increased food production, availability and access through pursuing operationalisation of the Food Security and Nutrition policy.
- Engages in modeling and promotion of community-led, gender sensitive and innovative food and income options that inform policy and practice.
- Is sensitive to the prevalent demographic shifts and subsequent livelihood needs for both urban and rural populations and thus played a key role in formulation of urban agriculture ordinances for Kampala district. EA has now embarked on processes for getting urban agriculture recognized nationally through policy analysis, reviews and practical revisions.
EA hosts PROLINNOVA, an NGO led global partnership initiative to promote local innovations in ecologically oriented agriculture and natural resource management.
